Yeah I know…there are about a zillion F3F planes out there all claiming to be the ultimate.

Well, we don’t claim that with Strega.

What we do claim is an accurate, fully moulded well finished and fitted out airframe that is at least as good as the best you can buy – including “Unobtania” – but for a reasonable price.

So, what’s it all about?

Strega is actually third in a series which I had developed over around 5 years, but had no names. The name Strega seemed to fit because when I flew the prototype straight from the moulds it sure bewitched me.

The aerofoils used on the wing are a series of non-undercambered sections which descend from 8% through 7.5% to 7% at the wing tips and are the JH8 series. Again, these have had a long development period including verification by wind tunnel testing.

Supported by a large carbon wing joiner, the plug-in wings are of elliptical plan form which has been optimized to give a compromise between good lift distribution without the attendant tip stalling behavior sometimes seen in truly elliptical plan forms.

Fin and tailplane sections are also of advanced symmetrical design and have no drag bucket at any speed.

Flying Strega is easy as it is with all well designed sailplanes. Slow with the large flaps down Strega is a pussycat and can be backed up over the edge for landings. At speed it has amazing energy retention whether “banked and yanked” or “upped and overed”. It tracks well and with coupled flaps/ailerons plus snap flap it just kicks around the turns.

Strega comes as complete as any F3F sailplane available today, same fit and finish, most fittings pre-installed, full set of needed fittings – in fact the whole nine yards.

Mini Vector…son of Vector III!

Following the enormous success of our Vector III – now a classic we decided to go a step further yet back with the Vector Mini – or to give it a buzz name MINIVEC!

Designed to have all the plus points of its dad the vector III and none of the niggles, our designer Dr. James Hammond decided to go the whole hog and give this little whizzer a whole new look.

So what’s so special?

The wings and tail planes have been curved yet retain the classic Vector look, the fuselage is softened with a larger, more curvaceous fin and the ballast now sits in the wings. Basically the clean design, affordability and plain good looks make this a plane that anybody would want in their stable.

Performance?

Well for something that breaks down into a package that can easily be taken anywhere, the flight performance is simply stunning – period. Any aerobatic maneuver that is possible for a sailplane to perform is accomplished with ease, and unlike it dad, the Minivec will tumble if outrageous control movements are your bag.

The Predator is a highly sophisticated slope-racer, specially designed for F3F. It is designed by Gudmund Malones. It has been developed over a period of 18 months to get the best performance possible, and the goal was to offer a top class glider, and yet be affordable.

Materials all over are the best available as the strength and finish.

Wings and fuselage are painted in high gloss moulds, and have a long lasting hard finish. Wings have a 40 mm spar made of Herex, and the wings are made with GFK, single carbon and double carbon version.

Flight characteristics are forgiven, but it has a tremendous speed range.

It picks up speed very fast, and has a lot of energy retention.

This is important in competitions, but also gives you the very best performance while you just want to relax with it, or perhaps just go bananas.

Fully aerobatic of course, but the essence of the Predator is the speed.

The prototypes have been flown with 1.6 kilos of ballast in severe conditions. Those are also tested in Dynamic Soaring.

Sunbird 60” – a Lot of sailplane in a small attractive package

Produced from CAD design and CNC generated moulds, this little/big sailplane was designed with a range of possible flyers in mind from novice to expert.

I designed it to be very transportable – basically, disassembled it can fit on a car parcel shelf, so it is very convenient to carry around, but at the same time I wanted to make an airframe that in expert hands could really perform.

The aerofoil section is probably quite advanced for this kind of plane and gives a very wide speed range and possibility of operation in a wide range of wind conditions.

Sunbird flying panels and control surfaces are large enough to be effective in almost any conditions, while the flaps make it possible to land the plane slowly and safely even at small flying sites.

Added to that, the radio bay is large enough to enable installation of the servos and radio pack without resorting to micro surgery, while the fuselage and in fact the whole plane still has a pleasing and balanced shape. Remember: “If it looks good, it flies good” – and that really is true with this little whizzer.

Flight tests in a wide range of conditions have revealed a very good turn of speed, high maneuverability, no bad habits, and very controllable landing characteristics.
